Symphonic Shakespeare at the Shell Tonight

August 29, 2012

Tonight marks the final performance of the 2012 Landmarks Festival at the Shell. We are grateful to all of our fans and supporters for making these concerts possible. Our performances on the Esplanade have drawn thousands of viewers to the Hatch Shell and we’re so excited to call this location our summer home.

Our final summer concert deserves a very special guest. It is our pleasure to welcome the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company to the Hatch Shell for our Symphonic Shakespeare program. This week, we will partner with the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company to combine the joy of classical music with Shakespeare’s influential dramatic works.

Actors from the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will alternate spoken word with music tonight as the orchestra performs. Throughout the night, you will hear the orchestra play Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Shostakovich’s Music to Hamlet, Walton’s Henry V and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendelssohn.

While the music plays, actors will be performing from Shakespeare’s large collection of historical, dramatic and comedic plays. The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will feature Henry V, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for their performance this evening.

We hope you will be able to join us for our final performance at 7 P.M. at the Hatch Shell this summer. It will be a night filled with laughter, drama, music and fun!
