June: the Perfect Warm-up for our Summer Season!

June 22, 2012

Though our concert series at the Hatch Shell does not begin until July and August, we’ve been finding plenty of ways to keep the Landmarks team busy this June.  As opening night on July 11 approaches we wanted to recap the highlights of our season so far. For a complete schedule of events this summer visit our webpage.

Landmarks Gala – Saturday, June 9th

Our annual Gala was a huge success this year! The event was held in Sanders Theatre at Harvard, and everyone enjoyed an evening of classical and salsa music! The Orchestra, the Boston Children’s Chorus and the band Alex Alvear y Amigos performed beautiful and intriguing pieces in our first ever Gala concert. In previous years we’ve had musical entertainment throughout the event, but this was the first year a full concert was held prior to the dinner. It turned out to be a hit! Following the concert guests enjoyed delicious food, dancing and our silent auction. There were even some merengue lessons!

Brass Ensemble and 100 Violins in Dorchester Park – Monday, June 11th

Making music accessible to all is part of the Landmarks Orchestra mission. This year in particular, our conductor Chris Wilkins introduced his 20/20 vision: bringing our music to all of Boston’s surrounding neighborhoods by the year 2020. Our concert with the Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy students in Dorchester brings us one step closer to achieving that vision! It was held in Dorchester Park on a beautiful Monday afternoon. The kids showed their enthusiasm as they performed “America the Beautiful” and laughed as our Brass Ensemble made silly noises with their instruments. It was a gratifying experience to teach the students about music while also having fun!

What’s Next:

This Monday you can find members of the Landmarks Orchestra performing at the inuaguration of the Tea Party ships and Museum. The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the museum location on the Congress Street Bridge. For more concert details rain date information please visit the event page.

We hope to see you there!
